Spotify just signed a music deal with Starbucks. The partnership comes at a crucial time – one month before Apple is poised to release its new Beats-based streaming service.
Under the deal, Spotify will provide music for 7,000 Starbucks retail locations in the United States. In addition, 150,000 Starbucks employees will receive free Spotify Premium subscriptions, and Starbucks customers will be incentivized to sign up as well.
Spotify subscribers will now also be able to earn points through the My Starbucks Rewards loyalty card program. To top it all off, Starbucks baristas will act as ‘DJs,’ curating the in-store playlists.
