Blues ain’t the only music to come out of the big house. In 1979 a bunch of inmates in a Virginian prison cashed in on a promise that the prison never thought they would have to make good on. The inmates arranged to have a recording studio come to the prison to record an album. With only 300 known copies pressed, many of which were lost in a flood, its a rare gem that few have heard and barely made it out of the prison walls. This Friday, the Numero Group will reissue the release and give the album its freedom. Read more about the story, take a listen and get your groove on over at SALON.
